Friendster was my first social media platform, featuring Disney princesses as the background. Then there’s Facebook, where I see my friends’ life updates and other shares of memes. Twitter, or now X, serves as a place for rants for me, but I also use it to repost pretty things. Instagram, on the other hand, is more of a gallery.
I follow some of my friends online, as well as some social media celebrities. I see them post about their academics, family, and relationships. I’ve always admired those people who share their significant others. I know that not everything is posted online and that most people showcase only the good things. But I would like to be posted about as well. There may be fights or arguments in the real world, but it’s still nice to feel appreciated online.
Long-distance relationships are hard, as many people say, but online connection makes it easier. You meet once a month or once a week due to distance, yet when your partner posts about you online, it feels like you are just one house apart.
Some people don’t like it, and I can’t understand why. Some might find it cringey, and my question is, why? Cringe means feeling embarrassed about doing something. So, why would you feel embarrassed about posting your loved one? Shouldn’t you be proud to have them? Why would you feel cringey about showcasing your partner online?
Well, yes, it isn’t mandatory, but shouldn’t you show your appreciation for your loved ones online, especially if you’re in a long-distance relationship?
That’s just my opinion. Maybe others just really don’t prefer to do that. I do. I hope someday I can meet a man who doesn’t feel cringey about posting me online. I hope I find someone who enjoys showing me off to everyone. It might look like I’m trying to fit in with what couples post online, but this is something I want. It’s something I want to experience and have. It’s just sad to hear that your significant other says that they feel cringey about posting you.
Maybe someday, I will meet a man who won’t feel cringey about posting me.
